Aestus partners with nonprofit biotech institute to test ALS drugs

The ALS Therapy Institute has agreed to collaborate with New Jersey-based Aestus Therapeutics to conduct studies on small-molecule drugs that could delay or halt the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease. The institute will be in charge of testing the compounds identified by Aestus using a preclinical model of the condition.

FDA policy would accelerate approval of drug cocktails

The FDA is formulating guidelines that would speed up testing and approval of multidrug cocktails for potentially life-threatening diseases that lack treatments. The policy is expected to benefit the Critical Path to TB Regimens, a collaboration of major drugmakers and nonprofit groups assembled by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
